Pakistan's economy continues to perform strongly: Moody's

LONDON (December 14 2005): Pakistan's economy has continued to 'perform strongly' and its 8.4 percent growth rate is the fastest rate in two decades, a report released by the Moody's said here on Tuesday.

'Pakistan's economy has continued to perform strongly with real GDP growth accelerating to 8.4 percent in 2004-05 (fiscal year ending June), its fastest rate in two decades, the report said.

Hilton Foundation Awards $500,000 to Islamic Relief for Shelter for Pakistan Earthquake Victims

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has awarded a $500,000 grant to Islamic Relief to help Pakistan earthquake victims with short-term and long-term shelter. The Hilton Foundation grant is the first and only grant awarded to Islamic Relief by a U.S. foundation for Pakistan earthquake relief projects.

The deadly earthquake in Pakistan, which struck last October, has killed over 79,000 people, and left over 3 million people homeless. Aid workers on the ground fear casualties could rise even further as displaced people without adequate food, shelter or healthcare will soon face the harsh Himalayan winter.

New submarine cable operational by next month: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the second submarine cable of Pakistan will become operational from the next month, while a fibre-optic line link being taken from India.

Pakistan prime minister addressing general assembly of the Asia Pacific Tele-community here said the second submarine cable would end possibility of any future Internet crisis in the country.
